Central Sterile Processing

This course is designed to introduce the primary responsibilities of a Central Sterile Technician.  The course includes practical applications of learned concepts and procedures.  Topics include preparation, storage, distribution of instruments, supplies and equipment, quality assurance and inventory management.  Upon completion, students should be able to apply the principles of sterilization/disinfection in the workplace, as well as the principles of distribution of instruments/supplies/equipment.

EKG Technician

The course is designed and approved to prepare students to become a certified EGK (ECG) and Technician/Monitor. The course will cover the anatomy and physiology of the heart, principles of EKG, dysrhythmia recognition of sinus, junctional/atrial rhythms, heart blocks, and bundle branches and ventricular rhythms. Skills will include operating EKG equipment, running and mounting strips as well as reading and interpreting 22 types of cardiac lead tracings produced from 12 and 5 lead monitors and to understand the basics of capnography as it relates to heart function.

Electronic Health Records

This course covers concepts and techniques for managing and maintaining manual and electronic health records (HER). Topics include structure and use of health information including data collection and analysis, data sources/sets, archival systems, and quality and integrity of healthcare data.  Upon completion, students should be able to monitor and apply system-wide clinical documentation guidelines and comply with regulatory standards. Additionally, students may sit for national certification examinations.

Medical Terminology

This course is an introduction to the study of the structure of medical words and terms. Emphasis is placed on spelling and defining commonly used prefixes, suffixes, root words, their combining forms, and body organization. Program content covers the basic human anatomy and physiology for all systems, laboratory medicine, pharmacology, and elements of medical terms and names of major diseases, including terms used in physical exams, operative procedures and diagnosis.

Nurse Aide I

This course is designed to prepare graduates to perform more skills that are complex for patients or residents, regardless of the setting.  A skill/competency evaluation is required for documenting student competency.  The course includes class, laboratory and clinical learning experiences. Upon satisfactory completion of the course and skill/competency evaluation, the graduate is eligible to apply for listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing Nurse Aide Registry.  Prerequisite: High School Diploma or GED.

Note: Must be provided for clinical experience: Current Immunization Record, Physical Exam, 2 Step Skin Test, Flu Vaccine and COVID Vaccine.

Must have a watch with a second hand, blood pressure cuff and stethoscope.

Nurse Aide II

Pharmacy Technician

Pharmacy Technicians help licensed pharmacists dispense prescription medication to customers or health professionals. They work in retail pharmacies and hospitals. Customer service skills are also learned as you may assist customers in retail with over-the-counter drugs, medical equipment and supplies, pharmaceutical care services, and other health care products.

Phlebotomy

Phlebotomists obtain blood and other samples for laboratory testing. They establish professional relationships with their patients, collect and prepare specimens, maintain collection areas and equipment, and perform record keeping duties.

Surgical Technologist Pathway I and II

This course provides a comprehensive study of operative care, patient care concepts, and professional practice concepts within the profession of surgical technology. Topics include preoperative, perioperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care and preparation.  Upon completion, students should possess the clinical skills to maintain asepsis during surgery, anticipate the surgeon’s needs, remain attentive to all aspects of the surgical procedure to ensure a safe environment, and knowledge necessary to obtain certification as an entry-level Surgical Technologist.
