SCC is an authorized training center for the American Heart Association and certifies students in the Healthcare Provider – Basic Life Support course. Students are required to obtain CPR as a pre-requisite for many areas of study, such as the Nursing and Emergency Medical Services programs.
This course is designed to prepare the Allied Health Student in understanding basic human structure and function. This course meets the prerequisite requirement for the Billing and Coding program.
The course is designed and approved to prepare students to become a certified EGK (ECG) and Technician/Monitor. The course will cover the anatomy and physiology of the heart, principles of EKG, dysrhythmia recognition of sinus, junctional/atrial rhythms, heart blocks, and bundle branches and ventricular rhythms. Skills will include operating EKG equipment, running and mounting strips as well as reading and interpreting 22 types of cardiac lead tracings produced from 12 and 5 lead monitors and to understand the basics of capnography as it relates to heart function.
The Nurse Aide I or Certified Nursing Assistant program introduces students to basic nursing skills needed in a healthcare setting, and is approved by the NC Division of Health Service Regulation.
Pharmacy Technicians help licensed pharmacists dispense prescription medication to customers or health professionals. They work in retail pharmacies and hospitals. Customer service skills are also learned as you may assist customers in retail with over-the-counter drugs, medical equipment and supplies, pharmaceutical care services, and other health care products.
Phlebotomists obtain blood and other samples for laboratory testing. They establish professional relationships with their patients, collect and prepare specimens, maintain collection areas and equipment, and perform record keeping duties.
