BLET Admissions

Overview

Applicants who wish to become a Certified Law Enforcement Officer may enroll in the Basic Law Enforcement Training Program (BLET) at Sampson Community College. Interested applicants must complete the BLET Special Admissions process (listed below) in addition to completing the BLET Admissions Packet.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Candidate must be 20 years of age by the time they sit for the state exam and must have a waiver if age 19.
  • Candidate must be a graduate from a high school or equivalency (GED) program.
  • Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Candidate must be a citizen of the United States of America.
  • Reading comprehension test is required. A reading level of at least 10th grade is required.

**Partial or limited enrolled students can enroll with a letter of authorization and approval from Training and Standards and approval of the School Director.

New & Re-Admit Students

New students must complete an application for admission, including a residency determination request. All applicants must complete Residency Determination to determine tuition status (in-state or out-of-state) prior to completing and submitting an admissions application. Documentation may be required during this process. Once you have completed your Residency Determination, you will be provided a Residency Certification Number (RCN) that can be used to complete your Admissions Application.

Sampson Community College strongly encourages you to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as early as possible in order to qualify for all forms of federal and state aid you are eligible for. Although we encourage students to complete this application as early as possible, please understand that ALL admissions requirements must be completed before financial aid can be awarded.

To request a BLET Packet, Contact Us. The BLET Admissions Packet may be obtained in-person at Sampson Community College in the North Building, Room 201. View Campus Map.

This packet includes information and forms you will need to complete the following:

  1. Obtain a sponsorship letter from either a city or county law enforcement agency from anywhere in the state of NC.
  2. Obtain criminal background checks (=certified court records) from each county in every state that you have lived since age 16 to present.**
  3. Obtain a CERTIFIED copy of your driving record from the Department of Motor Vehicles. This can be ordered online at ncdot.gov or received in person at the Raleigh DMV.** 
  4. Obtain a certified copy of your High School transcript or GED completion.
  5. Provide completed Medical Forms (F-1 and F-2) by a physician (must be valid during course of academy).
  6. Provide a completed Personal History Statement (F-3) that has been notarized.
  7. Provide proof of citizenship either with a birth certificate or Naturalization papers.
  8. Provide a copy of your Social Security Card.
  9. Provide a copy of your valid North Carolina Driver’s License.

**These two forms are valid for only 90 days and must be current at the start of class. Plan to complete these after November 6, 2017 and before January 30, 2018. The certified copy of your driving record can take up to 14 days to be received in the mail.

An official transcript showing high school graduation or GED completion is required for all students seeking financial aid. Transcripts from other colleges or universities attended are required to verify prerequisite coursework and for transfer credit review.

Opened or faxed transcripts are not official.

High School Graduates: Students currently attending, or previously graduated from, a participating high school may request electronic transcripts on www.cfnc.org to be sent to Sampson Community College. Electronic requests may be made (1) upon submission of an online admissions application, or (2) directly from within the Application Hub. This service is free of charge to students.

Homeschool Graduates: Applicants must submit a copy of the home school’s approved registration from the state in which they are registered and an official transcript including the graduation date. Official transcripts must be issued by the chief administrator of the home school and show the school’s name and address.

High School Equivalency (HSE) Diploma: Applicants who have successfully completed the High School Equivalency (HSE) program should request for their scores be sent to the SCC Admissions Office. Students can request an official copy of their scores by visiting the following website: High School Equivalency Records Office.

Non-U.S. Schools: Official transcripts from non-US schools must be translated and evaluated by any member agency associated with the National Associated of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). For high school transcripts, request a general evaluation showing equivalency to a US high school.  If you are seeking transfer credit from a non-US institution, request a course-by-course evaluation of your college/university transcript. Please visit www.naces.org for more information.

Sampson Community College uses an online system call WebAdvisor that can be used to view course descriptions, view availability of sections for a particular course, and ultimately register and pay for classes.

Currently Enrolled Students

Currently enrolled students need to stop by Student Services to complete a change of program with a counselor.

After completing the change of program, you will need to update your admissions with a counselor.
