Melita Butler was like a lot of folks in Sampson County going from job to job trying to find stability and provision for her family, but in 2000 she decided she had enough. “I knew a college degree would be the only thing that would give my family and me the security we needed.” She decided to enroll in the Office Systems Technology Program at SCC and says it’s by far the best decision she has ever made. “My instructor Sherry Hines encouraged me every time I wanted to give up, and she motivated me in times of struggle.” Butler insists that her family kept her going, and she’s proud to call SCC home as the Continuing Education Secretary where she utilizes her degree. “I don’t plan to stop here, though,” she adds. “The folks at SCC have motivated me to pursue my Bachelors in Business. I plan to work at SCC forever, because it’s a place that values not just their students, but their staff as well. They gave me hope and a job when my family and I needed it most.”
