Sampson Community College student Cornelius Lindsey sees a bright future on the horizon, and he says SCC has helped him pave the way. Despite setbacks in his past, Lindsey is looking forward to finally completing his lifetime goal of completing college! Lindsey thought that high athletic ability in high school would carry over into college, but he soon learned that wouldn’t pan out for his future. After attending a large university and not making the grade, he felt like something was missing, and he realized he had overlooked what was right in front of him. “SCC was right here the whole time, and I hadn’t taken advantage of the opportunities at home,” Lindsey adds. He decided to enroll in classes and says it was the best decision he has ever made. “I’ve never met better instructors at any other school than at SCC. Lindsey, who is currently pursuing two degrees, is majoring in Information Systems Security and Computer Information Technology. Set to graduate in Spring 2010, Cornelius is optimistic about the future despite the current economic climate. “You would think jobs in IT and Network Administration would be recession-proof, but our economy has proven us wrong. However, I know the skills I possess and the determination I have to succeed will always be recession-proof.” Michael Traylor, Lindsey’s math instructor, says Cornelius is a success in every sense of the word. “He’s hard working, always attends class and always comes with a positive attitude. His success in math this semester is directly related to his willingness to learn anything and everything. I know he will succeed at whatever he sets out to accomplish.”
