STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES (SSS) is an educational support
program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education and
Sampson Community College. The mission of SSS is to encourage
and assist students who are traditionally under-represented
in post secondary education because of INCOME,
FAMILY BACKGROUND, and/or DISABILITY
in the completion of post-secondary education. Services, which
include TUTORIAL ASSISTANCE, COUNSELING,
and CULTURAL/EDUCATIONAL ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES, are
focused on individual needs at no cost to participants. Enrollment
is open to eligible students with continuing access until
graduation.
WHO ARE WE?
In Student Support Services we want to help students who have
the potential to succeed at SCC. We offer services through
federal funding that make these goals a reality for those
students who join our program.
WHO CAN JOIN?
First, students who seriously want to achieve their potential
in school! Second, those students who meet one or more of
the following guidelines: · Be a first generation college
student· Have a limited family income· Have
a documented physical and/or learning disability Third, students
who have a need for academic support and who want opportunities
that will allow them to develop and feel better about themselves.
WHY JOIN?
We sincerely want you, our participants, to have that extra
help you need to overcome any barriers to your ambitions.
We don’t want any obstacles to prevent you from completing
and benefiting from your college life and “becoming
what you can become.”
WHEN CAN YOU JOIN?
You must be enrolled or accepted at SCC before you can be
invited to join the Student Support Services program. Participation
is voluntary. Students are identified and contacted each semester.
Those students who are interested in joining, but have not
received an invitation, should contact the Student Support
Services office.
HOW DO YOU BENEFIT?
We offer you: college success inventories; tutorial assistance;
computer assistance instruction; counseling support; career
interest inventories; study skills techniques; personal/academic
enrichment workshops, cultural/educational enhancement activities.
