President SearchThe Board of Trustees invites applications and nominations for the position of President at Sampson Community College. The President serves as the Chief Executive Officer and reports directly to an appointed thirteen-member Board. Sampson Community College, founded as an extension unit of the Goldsboro Industrial Education Center, was chartered as an independent member institution of the North Carolina Community College System in 1967. The College operates as a comprehensive two-year public community college serving adult students of Sampson and surrounding counties. Consistent with the historical traditions of North Carolina’s community colleges, the College affirms its belief in the incomparable worth of all students and its commitment to open-door student admissions. Central to this commitment, the College recruits and retains outstanding faculty members who support this mission and are dedicated to the art of teaching and advising students from all backgrounds and at all levels of educational preparation. Sampson County was established in April of 1784 by the North Carolina General Assembly from an area taken from neighboring Duplin County. Land from Wayne and New Hanover counties would be annexed later. Our early settlers were Scotch-Irish immigrants from North Ireland, many of who came to the colony of North Carolina under the protection and inducements of Henry McCulloch, a wealthy London merchant. In 1745, McCullough had obtained grants from the British Crown covering some 71,160 acres of land "lying and situated on the branches of the North East and Black River." The Scotch-Irish immigrants were soon joined by descendants of the Swiss colony in New Bern, and sometime later, pioneers from the northern states of New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts.
