Dr. Steven Matthis grew up on a livestock farm in Eastern North Carolina. He graduated from NCSU the first time with a Masterís in Agricultural Education. His first teaching job was at Brevard High in Transylvania County teaching Agriculture from 1976 to 1978. Dr. Matthis started an Agricultural Science program at Sampson Community College 1978-1980. From 1980 to 1993 he pursued fulltime farming raising swine, cattle and sheep. He returned to Sampson Community College in 1993 and started the current Animal Science Technology Program. He graduated from NCSU with a Doctorate in Occupational Education in 2004. Dr. Matthis currently teaches Animal Science and manages Occupational Programs at Sampson Community College.
