Computer Classes
Intro to Internet
This course is designed to introduce students to the World Wide
Web and to a number of the basic applications that are used in Internet
communication. Students will be introduced to the two primary forms
of Internet communication, e-mail and web pages. Students will learn
how to send and receive e-mail, browse web pages, the basics of
shopping online, checking stock prices, and more. No prerequisite.
Basic Computer Applications
(MS Windows)
This course will provide students an introduction to computing.
Students will receive instruction on how to setup a computer, how
to use the mouse and keyboard, how to create and print text documents,
how to organize files, how to use the Microsoft Windows operating
system, and more. Students will receive hands-on experience during
class sessions. No prerequisite.
Intro to MS Office
This course will provide students an introduction MS Office, Microsoft’s
suite of business, presentation, and Internet applications. Emphasis
will be on providing basic instruction of Office’s core applications
(Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Internet Explorer). Students
will receive hands-on experience during class sessions to perform
basic tasks with MS Office. Prerequisite: Basic Computer Applications
(MS Windows) or basic keyboarding, computer, mouse, and Windows
skills required.
MS Word
This course will cover the basic concepts of this popular word processing
software package to design documents and insert graphics or chart
data. Learn how to develop, edit, modify, and print documents. Emphasis
will be on changing fonts, using automatic numbering and bulleting,
creating tabs, using headers and footers, and formatting pages.
Prerequisite: Basic Computer Applications ( MS Windows) or basic
keyboarding, computer, mouse, and Windows skills required.
MS Excel
This course will explore the power of this popular spreadsheet software
program. Learn how commands and icons are used to plan, design,
create, and print worksheets. Learn how to enter data, write and
develop formulas, how graphs, colors, patterns, and borders are
used in worksheets, how to adjust column or row lengths and heights,
and much more. Prerequisite: Basic Computer Applications (MS Windows)
or basic keyboarding, computer, mouse, and Windows skills required.
MS PowerPoint
To keep your audience’s attention visual effects are as important,
if not more, than presentation content. Show your audience color,
motion, and special effects. This software package can be used in
school classrooms or for business presentations. Learn how to create
good-looking overhead transparencies and video shows. This software
provides prefabricated layouts (templates), color schemes, and fonts
but learn how to create your own specialized layout. Prerequisite:
Basic Computer Applications (MS Windows) or basic keyboarding, computer,
mouse, and Windows skills required.
MS Publisher
A promotional form must catch the reader’s eye in three seconds
or it is thrown in the trash. Learn how to improve readability and
audience reach for your newsletter, brochure, or church bulletin.
Learn how to implement the elements of good layout for fliers, etc.
Prerequisite: Basic Computer Applications (MS Windows) or basic
keyboarding, computer, mouse, and Windows skills required.
Adobe InDesign
This course provides an introduction to the capabilities of desktop
publishing software. Emphasis is placed on the efficient use of
this page layout software package to create, design, and print brochures,
flyers, menus and other publications.
Prerequisite: Basic Computer Applications (MS Windows)
or basic keyboarding, computer, mouse, and Windows skills required.
Keyboarding
Tired of the "hunt & peck" method for your e-mail
or typing letters. This course will help you learn touch-typing
skills by two methods. The traditional computer method gets you
acquainted with the home-row keys, reach-row keys, and fallback-row
keys. The CD-ROM game program uses visualizations, sound, and graphics.
By utilizing a person’s three senses (sight, touch, &
sound) with instant feedback, touch-typing is easier and faster
to learn. No prerequisite.
Intro to Web Page Design
Have you ever wanted to design your own personal web page but didn’t
know where to start? This course will teach you what you need to
know to design a web page and have it available to be viewed by
anyone in the world with Internet access. Through classroom instruction
and receiving hands-on experience, you will have designed your own
small web site by the end of the class! Learn how to create hypertext
links, insert images, upload your web page to a web server, and
more. This is an introductory class and is designed to make it easy
for anyone with experience in browsing the Internet. No prior HTML
or other computer programming experience is necessary.
Prerequisite: Basic keyboarding, computer, and mouse skills.
Introduction to the Internet or basic experience in connecting to
and browsing the Internet.
