COMPUTER COURSES
There will be a $5.00 technology fee charged for all
Continuing Education computer courses, which covers the cost of
purchasing, installing, and maintaining computer hardware and software.
Senior citizens are not exempt from this fee.
Introduction to Adobe Photoshop
This 39-hour course will give students an introduction to Adobe
Photoshop 7.0, the digital image editing software application that
is the world standard among graphic artists and photographers. Adobe
Photoshop 7.0 has a number of new features unavailable in the previous
version, including the healing brush, color correction tools, and
file management tools. Students will learn how to use this software
package through a series of hands-on exercises. These exercises
will begin with the basics, such as becoming familiar with the various
tools and basic photo retouching. Students will then progress into
more complex tasks in Photoshop, including working with selections,
masks and channels, layering, and basic photo correction. A textbook
is required for this course and can be purchased the first class
session during registration. The tuition fee is $60.00. Pre-requisites:

Intro to iLife: Digital Photos, Music, Video Editing, and More
This 39-hour course will give students an introduction to iLife,
a suite of applications for digital media creation. This course
will cover four applications with iLife: iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie,
and iDVD. If you are looking to improve your business presentations,
create a professional-quality business portfolio, or simply create
image, video and music projects for family, friends or school, iLife
can easily transform an average project into a masterpiece. The
tuition fee is $60.00. Pre-requisites: Introduction to Computers,
Basic Computers, or equivalent skills.
Internet Applications: The
Basics and Beyond
This 39-hour course will enable students to become proficient in
applying these forms of internet communication for everyday uses
such as online shopping, reading the news, conducting research,
efficiently transferring files to remote users at home and at work,
video conferencing, and more. Moreover, students will be familiarized
with various types of video, audio and graphic files used on the
Internet and the applications associated with them. The tuition
fee is $60.00. Pre-requisites: Intro to Computers, Basic Computers,
or equivalent skills.
Intermediate Internet
Applications
This course is designed for students who want to continue their
studies of internet ommunication beyond basic web browsing and email.
In this course, students will learn how to configure and use instant
messaging software for chatting on the internet. Students will also
learn about some of the early forms of internet communication that
are still used quite frequently on the internet: newsgroups, telnet,
and FTP. Moreover, students will receive a basic introduction of
encryption cryptography and how it is used on a day-to-day basis
in internet communication. The tuition fee is $55.00. Pre-requisites:
Intro to the Internet, Employment Planning on the Internet, or equivalent
skills.
Introduction to OpenOffice.org
Office Productivity Suite
Save software cost with the OpenOffice.org suite of business
applications. OpenOffice.org will run on many of today?s operating
systems and hardware, including Windows 95/98/2000/NT with at least
Pentium I or comparable processor computers, Linux 2.0 or higher,
Macintosh OS X, and Sun Solaris 2.51 or higher. OpenOffice.org includes
the following applications: Writer (word processing), Calc (spreadsheet),
Impress (presentation), Draw (drawing), database access and more.
What?s missing from OpenOffice.org in comparison to other popular
office applications? For many enterprises, small business and home
users, the answer is simply the price. OpenOffice.org is available
for free with licensing provisions that allow the application to
be installed on an unlimited number of machines. Students enrolled
in this course will receive a free CD containing a full, working
version of the OpenOffice.org software for use in the office or

Introduction to Adobe Illustrator
This 39-hour course will give students an introduction to
Adobe Illustrator 10.0, the choice among professional artists for
creating computer-generated illustrations. These exercises will
begin with the basics, such as becoming familiar with the tools,
creating basic shapes, drawing with the pen tool, and working with
brushes. Students will then progress into performing fundamental
tasks with Illustrator, including transforming objects, working
with text, working with layers, creating airbrush effects, and more.
The tuition fee is $60.00. A textbook is required for this course
and can be purchased the first class session during registration.

Introduction to Digital
Photography
This course is designed to give the students an introduction to
producing professional quality digital photographs for gallery display
and print in various media. Students will receive instruction on
digital camera equipment, how to improve their photo taking skills,
and receive demonstrations and hands-on experience in the computer
lab on how to develop prints through various methods. Students will
also become familiar with the various software applications used
by professional photographers by receiving hands-on experience and
demonstrations. Students may bring their camera to the first class
if they have one available. The tuition fee is $60.00. The pre-registration
deadline is Monday, August 22, 2005. Pre-requisites: Basic Computers
or equivalent skills.
Introduction to Web Page
Design
Have you ever wanted to design your own web page but didn’t
know where to start? This 39-hour course will teach you what you
need to know to design a web page and have it available to be viewed
by anyone in the world with internet access. Through classroom instruction
and hands-on experience, you will have designed your own small web
site by the end of the class! Learn how to create hypertext links,
insert images, upload your web page to a web server, and more. This
is an introductory class and is designed to make it easy for anyone
with experience in browsing the internet. No prior HTML or other
computer programming experience is necessary. The tuition fee is
$60.00. Pre-requisites: Introduction to the Internet, Employment
Planning on the Internet, or equivalent skills.
Introduction to Adobe Acrobat
Professional
This 30-hour course will give students an introduction to Adobe
Acrobat Professional, an essential tool for creating electronic
documents, press-ready publications, and more. Students will learn
how to use this software package through a series of hands-on exercises.
These exercises will begin with the basics, such as converting Microsoft
Word files and other word processing documents to the PDF format,
using the various search capabilities within PDF files, adding notes,
and more. Students will then progress into performing more advanced
tasks with Acrobat Professional, including modifying PDF files,
adding signatures and security, creating electronic forms, creating
PDF files for print and pre-press, and much more. The tuition fee
is $55.00. A textbook is required for the course and can be purchased
the first class session during registration. Pre-requisites:
Introduction to Computers, Basic Computers, or equivalent skills.
Basic Desktop Publishing
This course is designed to teach students how to produce basic print
business materials for both businesses and personal use alike. This
course starts with the basics, making it especially suited for those
with limited experience in producing print material from a personal
computer. Using their desktop computer, students will learn how
to create professional-looking business material, including letterhead
and envelope stationary, business cards, and marketing press releases.
Other projects will also be discussed, including creating flyers,
greeting cards, brochures, and more. This course provides a basic
introduction to the various methods of print output and the various
materials needed to produce first-quality, professional results.
The tuition fee is $55.00. Pre-requisites: Introduction to the
Computer, Basic Computers, Introduction to the Internet, or equivalent
skills.
FarmWin Fundamentals
This 9-hour course will introduce students to the fundamental
features of FarmWin, an application that assists farmers in maintaining
accurate business records of their farm operation. Students will
learn the basics of creating a new farm within the software for
maintaining records, create a basic production record and operation
template, and add inventory items. Pre-requisites: Introduction
to Computers, Basic Computers, or equivalent skills.
