The Basic Skills programs are designed to meet the needs
of individuals requiring basic skills instruction, from new readers
to high school graduates and English as a Second Language.
Structured classes are recommended at each level of instruction, starting
with basic reading and moving toward the courses required for the
GED high school equivalency preparation. Lab
Instruction is also provided. This is an individualized study situation
in which prescribed instructional materials and computer-based instruction
are utilized. The lab instruction and regular classes use a variety
of computer software especially tailored to different levels and
needs.
No registration fee is charged for these programs. Classes
are offered both on the Sampson Community College campus and at
class sites throughout the county.
GED ONLINE is also available for students who have a computer
and internet access. Call Kathy Peay at 592-8081 ext. 3519 or email
kpeay@sampsoncc.edu for
more information.
Sampson Community College also serves as the GED testing
center for Sampson County. Pre-tests and instruction, available
at no charge through the Basic Skills Department, can help ensure
success on the tests. Those obtaining satisfactory scores on the
GED test are awarded the High School Diploma Equivalency Certificate.
Textbooks are loaned to Basic Skills students while in
the classroom or laboratory. Textbooks cannot be taken home. GED
preparation books can be purchased from the SCC Bookstore. |
